95 Bulldogs win district 3 and reach state championship game
Updated: 05/11/2009 at 9:17 PM
The 95 Bulldogs won the District 3 championship by beating Rochester in the final game 6-3. Rochester had come out of the losers bracket and managed to win one against the Bulldogs before the Bulldogs doubled them up in the second game.
The 95 Bulldogs were on a run for their 3rd State title in a row but came up short to their nemesis from Rochester. Rochester made it to states after winning a play in tournament because district 8 did not send a team. The Bulldogs tied the first round robin game to KV 3-3, won the next against Flint 3-2 and then beat Traverse City 8-1 to reach the finals.
The bulldogs beat Grand Rapids 4-2 in the semi-final, but fell to Rochester by a single goal in the state championship game 4-3.
Rochester, Grand Rapids, and Grosse Pointe have been ranked #1, #2, and #3 in the country according to Midwest youth hockey rankings all season. They switched seeds all year. The Bulldogs must be considered among the elite teams of the state. Do I hear a call for a multi game series for the state championship?!?!
Congratulations to coach Doug Rahaim and the 95 Bulldogs on 3 great years in a row!
